From the Bench to the Big Time: " My Basketball Journey. " (Abrar Yaman Reza_24341037_Sec 53)

Growing up, I have tried many sports however basketball was the one I was most serious about. It all started back during my school life when I started playing basketball. At first I was not really good at it but gradually I got the hang out of it. I always dreamed of playing in the college team and luckily I did got to play in the college team but as a benchwarmer on the junior team of the College main team, it seemed like an impossible goal to make it to the main team as I did not have any experience whatsoever. I was also one of the smallest players on the court, often overlooked and underestimated. Yet, I refused to give up. I spent countless hours practicing after school, honing my skills and working on my conditioning.

I used to play a lot after school with my seniors from the main team. I was so determined and passionate about this game that it also made me skip my coaching classes. As days went by I started to play really good. I worked tirelessly on my shooting form and mechanics, developing a reliable jump shot. I was confident shooting from all areas of the court, including beyond the three-point line. I can say without a doubt that I was one of the best players from the junior team. Yet I never really got to play for the main team and during any tournament I used to be on the bench most of the time and even if I did get to play any match I would get less game time which was not enough for me to show my worth.

When my seniors from the main team graduated college and left for universities the junior team in which i was in got promoted to the main team. This time I knew that I was offered an opportunity to prove not just the others but also myself that I can do something for my school by winning any tournament.

Finally the day came where our college decided to arrange a tournament called "National Sports Simulacra 2023" where other players from different institutions could participate. During this event I was selected for the team captain although I was very overwhelmed but at the same time I knew that I have a big responsibility because whatever decision I will take will effect my team for the better or for the worse. In the tournament there were a total of  eight teams however losing one game will end up as a direct knockout from the tournament which was the thing I was mostly worried about throughout the whole tournament.

Our first game was against Sunnydale International School which was really one of the toughest teams to beat. One of my key strategies was to attack the basket and create contact with defenders. I was comfortable finishing through contact and drawing fouls. I also focused on finding open shooters and playing within the team's system. By combining my skills and strategies, I was able to overcome my size disadvantage and contribute effectively to my team's success with a score difference by only 4 points.

The second match was against Academia, during this match I alone scored 17 points which was the highest points in this match and our team played very well along with a strong defense which was the main reason for winning the second match as well with  a score difference of 8 points and we were off to the finals.

The final game was a blur of adrenaline and excitement. We were facing our biggest rivals  Adamjee Cantonment, a team that had dominated us even at the time of our seniors. The atmosphere was electric, with the court packed to capacity. From the opening tip-off, I knew this was going to be a battle. We were determined to prove ourselves and bring the trophy. I played with a level of intensity I had never experienced before. I was hustling for every loose ball, playing tough defense, and attacking the basket with relentless aggression. With the game tied late in the last quarter, I received a pass from my teammate and pulled up for a three-pointer. The shot felt good as it left my hand, and it swished through the net, giving us the lead. Every students and teachers who were watching us from the start screamed in joy at that very moment. I knew for a fact that this would be one of the greatest moment of my life. We held on to the lead and eventually secured the victory. As the final buzzer sounded, I collapsed to the floor, literally in tears the entire team surging around me. The dream I had chased for so long had finally come true. This was a moment that proved to me that anything is possible with hard work and determination.

My basketball journey has taught me so much about life. I've learned the importance of perseverance, resilience, and never giving up on your dreams. I've also learned that size doesn't matter if you have the heart and the skills to succeed.
